Principles of art Word Bank
Unity- Seeing the whole before the parts. This can be done by proximity, similarity, or continuation.
Pattern- When items repeat. It can be singular or sequenced.
Contrast- The differences between things; strong, sharp, soft, subtle.
Balance- The arrangement of the Elements; symmetrical, asymmetrical, or radial.
Movement- The direction your eye moves through the artwork; starts a focal point.
Emphasis- The focal point, the most important part of the artwork.
Rhythm- The visual beat, regular, irregular, stacatto
The Elements of Art
Line- straight, wavy, zig-zag, dotted, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, parallel, crosshatch, implied, outline, gesture
Color-primary, secondary, tertiary,neutral,warm, cool, tint, shade, complimentary, analogous
Shape-geometric (square,triangle, circle), organic (free flowing), open, closed
Value- Highlights, mid-tones, shadows, shading, subtle contrast, soft-contrast, chiaroscuro
Space-deep, shallow, overlapping, one-point perspective, 2-point perspective, aerial perspective
Form-height, width, depth, sculpture, actual, representational
Texture- real, simulated, smooth, rough, prickly

It shows emphasis with the person because it's the odder shape out of the painting and it shows contrast with the bright sky against the dark river, it also shows texture with the different color lines all over the painting and there's also plenty of space between the bridge, the shy, the other dark figures on the bridge.Also the shape of the river, the sky, and the river with it all twisted and curved
Principles-There is movement through the artwork because of the way the head moves with the background. Also the second is contrast, because some of the colors are dark so they make a soft contrast. Emements-the first is value. there is value by the shades of the green, yellow and orange. second is space because there is some overlapping by the yellow and orange sky. The orange is going over the yellow and sort of mixing in some spots. third is color, there is color, there are cool colors like the green and blueish black also the wooden railing. Also there are warm colors like the orange and yellow.
color is used because it shows the place he is in and the time of day. The lines are all flowing in a direction the depends on the color. The texture is very smooth looking it is like you could feel a very waxy cover.
The emphasis is on the man screaming it is close to the middle so you immediately look at it. The movement is you look in the center and then the right side then the top then the left side and then the bottom.
The first principle I noticed was movement, because the clouds and the face make you eyes want to move side to side and up, second principle is unity, there is unity in the painting with all the differnt shades of blue and red. The first element I noticed was line because the what I think is water is all line of different shades of blue and same with the sky and the bridge, second element would be texture because the painting looks like it would be smoothe with a few slight bumps, third Element is space and perspective because of. How the bridge is three dimensional and the water looks like a waterfall
