Principles of art Word Bank
Unity- Seeing the whole before the parts. This can be done by proximity, similarity, or continuation.
Pattern- When items repeat. It can be singular or sequenced.
Contrast- The differences between things; strong, sharp, soft, subtle.
Balance- The arrangement of the Elements; symmetrical, asymmetrical, or radial.
Movement- The direction your eye moves through the artwork; starts a focal point.
Emphasis- The focal point, the most important part of the artwork.
Rhythm- The visual beat, regular, irregular, stacatto
The Elements of Art
Line- straight, wavy, zig-zag, dotted, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, parallel, crosshatch, implied, outline, gesture
Color-primary, secondary, tertiary,neutral,warm, cool, tint, shade, complimentary, analogous

In the mural the artist has used three differnt principals that really stand out to me. one I believe is to be movement. In the art the artist seems to have connected all of the items in the painting in some way. Like the man holding his hands up, which leads into the big brass instrument then leading to the man painting on the canvas. Next i see that the artist has put emphasis on certain things in the painting. To me the things that are emphasized are, the words,the brass instruments, and everything that is overlapping another element of the painting. lastly I think that the artist also uses contrast. When he/she overlaps an item it seems that the artists makes sure that they are in great contrast with their colors. For example, the brass insrument against the black haired man, or the pink sleeves on the red shirt a man is wearing, plus, the blue words at the top of the mural are in contrast against the brown haired girl.
