Take a look at the three graffiti images below. One is radial balance, one is symmetrical balance, and one is asymmetrical balance. Identify the balance for each and tell me why. Also explain how contrast is used in each design. This is due Friday, Feb. 6th

Graffiti Wall A

Graffiti Wall B

Graffiti Wall C

Graffiti Wall A uses symmetrical balance because if you drew a line down the middle of the painting, then each side would come out exactly the same. Graffiti Wall B is asymmetrical because there is no symmetry in the painting. Graffiti Wall C has radial balance because the dogs revolve around the person in a circle (Kind of like how the planets revolve around the sun). Contrast in Graffiti Wall A is in the orange and the blue, as they are on opposite ends of the color wheel. The yellow is a middle man, making the contrast between the blue and orange weaker. Contrast in Graffiti Wall B is used by the black in the maid’s uniform. The contrast in Graffiti Wall C is the difference between the dogs and the woman. The woman is very tall and kind of vague, but the dogs are very crisp and detailed.
Painting A is Symmetrical. It is balanced because all the colors are the exact same on each side of the paper and that goes for the shapes as well. There is strong contrast because the blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel. Painting B is asymmetrical. The painting is balanced the same colors are used throughout the page. The contrast is soft because they are all very dark colors with a very pops of color from the red and the brown. Painting C is radical. The painting is balanced because there are 3 main colors used through the whole piece in different sections. The contrast is between bright yellow and the dark red because they are metaphorically speaking, like night and day.
Graffiti Wall A is symmetrical because one half of the wall is mirroring the other half. The contrast is blue and orange because they are across each other on the color wheel.
Graffiti Wall B is asymmetrical because it doesn't have any symmetry in the graffiti. The contrast is the black and white on the maid's uniform because one is light and one is dark.
Graffiti Wall C is radial balance because the wolfs are going around the spiritual woman. The contrast is woman and the wolfs. The woman isn't very detailed and the wolfs are very detailed.
Graffiti wall a is symmetrical balance because if you cut it in half each side will be the same as the other. The contrast is the orange and blue colors because they are opposites on the color wheel, with yellow serving as the mediator tying everything together.
Graffiti wall b is asymmetrical balance because no matter how you cut it each side will look different. The contrast is the black of the maid's dress on the white background.
Graffiti wall c shows radial balance because the wolves are circling the person in the center. The contrast is the difference in drawing of the wolves and the woman. The wolves are better drawn and look crisper while the woman looks ragged and blurred in some places.
Graffiti wall A uses symmetrical balance because you can draw a straight line down the middle and each side would be exactly the same. Graffiti wall A uses contrast by having two colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel, orange and blue. Graffiti wall B is asymmetrical because there is no symmetry and in the painting and drawing a straight line down the middle would make both sides different. Graffiti wall B uses contrast by using black in the maids uniform with the rest of the piece being white as fourth white and black are opposites. Graffiti wall C is radial because the dogs are circling around the person (the central point). Graffiti wall C uses contrast by having the dogs and the women so different. The dogs are more detailed and energetic while the women is very tall and unhappy looking.
The first wall uses symmetrical balance, since one side is the same as the other. It's contrast is in the color. The blue and red contrast from each other quite well, the yellow (or gold, or whatever shade it is) reduces this contrast to a point where it's not overwhelming, but still very prominent. It also allows the blue to contrast from the yellow, which adds to the visibility of the art, I'd notice that from the street. The second artwork is an asymmetrical balance, as there is nothing symmetric in the graffiti and nothing revolving around the maid. The contrast for this graffiti is in the maid's uniform and the bricks painted on the wall to the wall. The stark white and brick red clash against the dirty white wall. The third piece of street art is of radial balance, as the hounds circle the person. The contrast is in the deep red painted as the ground, the wolves and person, and the faint blue. The contrast between the blue and yellow is weak, almost nonexistent, as where the contrast between red and yellow is strong, where it happens, same goes for red and blue.
Painting A is symmetrical because the colors are all the same and the image of the painting is the same on each side. Painting B is asymmetrical because the same colors are used and the colors are very soft because they are dark and bright to make it stand out. Painting C is radial because the painting uses repetition by using many wolves.
Graffiti wall A uses symmetrical balance because it looks the same on each side making it symmetrical. The contrast is strong because of the orange and blue, they are complementary.
Graffiti wall B uses asymmetrical balance because it is different on each side.It uses strong contrast because black and white are complementary colors. Graffiti wall C uses radial balance because the wolves look like they are forming a circle around her. It uses a soft contrast because the blacks and the greys blend with the wall.
